Chicago Park District

The Chicago Park District is the oldest and (financially) largest park district in the U.S.A, with a $385 million annual budget. The Chicago Park District has the distinction of spending the most per capita on its parks, even more than Boston in terms of park expenses per capita. The district is an independent taxing authority as defined by Illinois State Statute and is considered a separate (or "sister") agency of the city of Chicago. The CEO of the Park District is appointed by the Mayor of Chicago.

Willye B. White for US Olympic Hall of Fame

The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Dinner honoring the inductee was held on Chicago on August 12, 2009.

Willye B. White was a great friend to many of us and tragically we lost her a few years ago when she lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Willye was a tremendous Track & Field athlete. She was the first five time American Olympian in Track and Field. She showed what the true Olympic Sprit means both on and off the track, bringing the first American recipient of the UNESCO International Fair Play Trophy.

What made Willye so special is what she did for others. She touched the lives of many people throughout the world. Her real passion was for the children; she cared deeply for the lives of our youth.

The Otis Wilson Foundation

The Otis Wilson Foundation has developed an advanced program focusing on training and promotion of the overall well being of societies children. The Foundation has collaborated with leaders in the nutrition, health and fitness industry to create an all-inclusive program to instill the desire and energy in children to live activity and healthy lifestyles.

The Foundation currently has established programs in schools around the Chicago area that focus on developing a healthy and fit lifestyle for our children. The Foundation has recently developed a partnership with the Epitome of Excellence, a state-of-the-art early childhood education program that provides a school for 1st through 3rd grade, after- school programs, summer camp and other educational activities. The Foundation will provide a program that consists of fitness, nutrition and basic physical activity including all sports activities to children in the after-school programs and the summer camp.
